The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) is a UK charity founded in 1804. Its purpose is to support all things related to horticulture and gardening. It runs and manages a number of famous gardens across the UK and has its headquarters in Wisley in Surrey. It not only supports gardeners and gardening with practical advice and expertise; it also undertakes scientific research in issues such as pest and disease control and awards plants that offer best performance in their class an 'RHS Award of Merit'.
Publicly, the RHS is perhaps best known for its prestigious Flower Shows, the most famous of these being 'The Chelsea Flower Show'. These shows run at different venues across the country throughout the summer and showcase garden design, plants, planting and garden products to the world. To have a Show Garden at one of these shows involves a competitive entry process as well as significant organisation skills and planning to build the garden on site in the restricted timeframes of the show. To achieve a medal at a show is the pinnacle of achievement for a garden designer and represents an affirmation of design skill, horticultural knowledge and hard landscape expertise.
To date, Peter Reader Landscapes has exhibited 2 show gardens; 'Four Corners' in 2013 and 'Al Fresco' in 2014, both at RHS Hampton Court Flower Show. Both gardens were awarded Silver Gilt Medals with 'Four Corners' also winning the much coveted 'Peoples Choice Award' (small gardens category), which means it was voted as the best garden by the public.
