Barnet: North London: Small rear garden

Having battled to rein in a 'post-mature' garden every weekend for a couple of years, I realised I needed help from a professional.
Possibly unusually for most of Peter’s clients, I was keen to project manage and undertake much of the labour myself. Especially as I also had a small budget, which had to be reserved for ‘hard’ costs where possible.
Peter fully answered the brief by providing a clear vision with a masterplan and most crucially, has also entirely removed all the stress of my not knowing where to start. I feel like I can progress through his plans in manageable sections and actually enjoy the work, rather than see the garden as a never-ending chore.
He has great attention to detail and suggested very good ideas that I hadn’t considered. In particular, the simple lighting plan, which enhances the garden hugely. This is why you need a Designer!

Greenwich: London: Small rear garden

Peter was recommended by a friend and has absolutely lived up to my expectations. We had only the vaguest idea of what we were trying to achieve with our small-ish London garden. It suffers with poor light because of large protected trees, was overgrown, and the design just didn't draw people out into the main garden area. As a result we simply weren't using the outdoor space even though we love to entertain.  I had a minimal understanding of which plants would thrive in the various areas of light and shade, so that was also a critical part of the project. Peter's initial designs brought some very outline ideas into an absolutely wonderful concept that I immediately loved. Peter also recommended a number of contractors to quote for the work and our chosen company has also been great to work with. Following a frustrating delay due to lockdown, we are finally approaching project completion and I'm thrilled with the result. Our neglected and overgrown garden has been transformed into a contemporary space with light and movement and which has nevertheless maintained the 'woodland glade' feel I was anxious not to lose. The addition of multiple areas to sit / perch for both ourselves and guests has made such a difference. Can't wait to see the new planting flourish and to be able to welcome more friends and family into our fabulous new space...

Kensington: Central London: Small Courtyard Garden

We thoroughly enjoyed working with Peter Reader to design our new garden. Peter showed great thought in his design process - integrating our taste with what would be suitable for our space: the structural layout, the types of plants that would thrive best and lighting as well. Furthermore during a otherwise very difficult construction project, Peter remained at all times so lovely to work with and this helped greatly with coordinating with our architect and builders.  5 starts for both outcome and process!

Clerkenwell: Central London: Small Courtyard

Peter really understood the brief to renovate our small(ish) shady patio in central London. Excellent design and great presentation of that design so we, and then the landscapers, fully understood the project. Peter did some detailed research on the area, so that history was brought into the plan, to add a particular character to our new space. He wrote detailed specifications for the plan, which made obtaining and evaluating quotes from the landscapers very straightforward. Overall, a great experience from start to finish!

Winchmore Hill: North London: Modern Suburban Garden with Eco-house

We were renovating our newly acquired house and adding a new rear extension with views out onto the garden. The garden was in a state of complete disrepair and sloped up away from the house, making it difficult to manage. We employed Peter to design a clean modern garden with a good sized lawn area, but also with strong structure to manage the levels and create different areas in the garden and a space for a garden gym and storage.
Peter came up with a strong design that delivered perfectly on our wishes. The garden now looks fantastic and feels open and modern, but still has plenty of interesting and low maintenance planting. He designed level changes with attractive steps between and the Eco-house at the end of the garden provides another excellent place to sit in the garden as well as housing the gym.
We are delighted with the garden and have no hesitation in recommending Peter to others.

Chiswick: South London: Modern Garden with Entertainment Space and Childrens Play

We were undertaking some new building works and additions to our house in Chiswick, so I contacted Peter to redesign the garden to deliver a striking and structural garden that would have lots of colour through the summer, but also retain interest through the winter. We like Mondrian Art and so wanted blocks of strong colour running through the design. We also have young children and do a lot of entertaining and so wanted a garden that would deliver for both needs.
Peter listened carefully to our requirements and worked with us to deliver these outcomes. The garden has lots of space for the children to play and items such as a trampoline have been kept, but cleverly placed so that they do not ruin the overall look and structure of the garden. The planting has been completely redesigned to deliver the colour we wanted and the garden contains different areas for relaxing and entertaining.
Peter kept us fully informed throughout the design process and also monitored its implementation, giving us confidence in achieving our desired outcomes. We have no hesitation in recommending Peter to anyone looking to redesign their garden’.

We were confused on how to design our garden ( its a large corner plot). North London: Hampstead Garden Suburb: Suburban Garden

After putting off our garden renovation for so many years we were finally encouraged to undertake the project after meeting Peter Reader. From our first meeting with him, we felt confident he understood our needs and could meet the very challenging transformation of a small garden into an interesting and welcoming space.

Peter exceeded all of our expectations.! He succeeded in converting a very small and narrow back alleyway, which felt disconnected to the garden, into an inviting, attractive feature which now flows creatively to connect with the rest of the garden and makes the whole garden feel much larger and much more exciting. We are thrilled with the result.

All through the project Peter worked tirelessly to make sure we were happy. The amazing thing is just how talented he is and yet very modest throughout. He quietly took us completely out if our comfort zone, and confidently navigated us towards this beautiful end result. We are so thrilled and look forward to the summer when we can enjoy our new garden.

Bermondsey: London: Thames Side Courtyard Garden

I live in a ground floor flat overlooking the Thames near Tower Bridge. I have a small garden, about 15m by 10m, which was badly in need of remedial action. Peter redesigned the garden, putting in a water feature, new beds with interesting trees, shrubs and flowers, and light coloured paving. The garden has been transformed from a dark and forbidding place to one in which it's a pleasure to spend time.
Peter's designs were creative, interesting and they work well. It has also been a pleasure to work with Peter on this project.

Stoke Newington: North London: Small courtyard garden

Peter was an absolute pleasure to work with and I could not recommend him highly enough. We hired Peter to help us turn our weed infested mud patch of a garden into a green oasis. Thanks Peter, for a wonderful design – we all absolutely love the garden now! I have been particularly impressed by the way you brought together the visual aspects of my Victorian house, the modern kitchen extension and the “woodland” garden – I could never have envisaged how that would look, but your very first designs were immediately so impressive, and it has all come together really beautifully. The water rill and steps feature is especially lovely, and the whole garden is enhanced by all the different lighting. We can’t wait for summer, when the plants will fill out more and we can enjoy our sunny, pretty garden – although, amazingly, my teenage kids and nieces have already spent many hours out there, in December: praise indeed!

Muswell Hill: North London: Suburban Garden

Peter designed our garden over the Spring of 2016 and we had a final finished garden in November. He is a delight to work with and spent a long time listening to what we wanted and making suggestions on how we could use our small garden space better. He came up with a design which we were really happy with and helped us find a great building company to do the work. Peter offers a project management service as well as design - I strongly recommend this as it meant he did a weekly visit and met with the builders and their manager. This took all the anxiety out of the project as it meant we didn't have to worry about the work. We now have a fantastic garden! Peter is a lovely man and easy to do business with. Highly recommended.

'It was a pleasure to work with Peter from beginning to end. Our garden was a real mess and we had only vague ideas about what we wanted. Peter came up with a fabulous design and planting scheme and led us through every stage from contractor selection through to the finishing touches.
